WESLACO – Former Hidalgo County District Attorney Rene Guerra said he will run to regain his position in 2018.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to Guerra by phone Friday evening. He said he filed for a treasurer designation on Friday.

Guerra explained that’s the first step before he officially files in December. He plans to run in the March primary.

Guerra said the only two things that can stop him from running are winning the lotto or being hit by lighting.

Ricardo Rodriguez is the current Hidalgo County District Attorney after defeating Guerra in 2014.
