WESLACO – Cartel-related dangers in northern Mexico may have steered migrant caravans toward California.
Over the holiday weekend, there was a flare up in violence across the border from Laredo.
KRGV’s Valerie Gonzalez spoke with security expert and former FBI agent Art Fontes about the fight that broke out in Nuevo Laredo.
He says this incident, along with other disruptions, tied to a search for suspects by the Mexican Marines.
"Because a lot of the Paisanos are going north and you see people visiting their families. And within that, you see cartel members also disguised as family members trying to get in and they're trying to, the CDN are making sure that their areas are safe,” says Fontes.
