BROWNSVILLE – A former Cameron County employee was sentenced to 50 years in prison for stealing millions of dollars worth of fajitas.

Gilberto Escamilla got caught last year when 800 pounds of meat was delivered to Darrel B. Hester Juvenile Detention Center and he wasn’t there to receive the order.

He’s charged with stealing more than $1.2 million worth of uncooked meat.

On Friday, a state judge dismissed the first count of theft as part of a cold plea.
