SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – The first handicap-friendly beach access is now open at South Padre Island.
It is located at Beach Access 4 off of Gulf Boulevard.
A concrete ramp turns into a mesh path, which is designed to help people in wheelchairs get closer to the water.
A spokesperson for the city tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS they plan to add more ramps similar to this one at other beach accesses.
