SAN BENITO – San Benito city leaders are looking to preserve African American history in the Rio Grande Valley, opening the first museum with African American culture in the Rio Grande Valley.
The Historical Society of San Benito and the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District are developing a new historical landmark dedicated to the people who suffered segregation locally.
This historical center in the Valley will serve to remember the importance of the African American community in south Texas and the days where there was a school only for African Americans.
