FBI raids Edcouch City Hall and homes of 2 city officials
The FBI took boxes of documents from Edcouch City Hall and the home of two city officials, according to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra.
An FBI spokesperson said the agency was conducting "court authorized law enforcement activities," and declined to provide further details.
Deputies with the sheriff’s office were assisting FBI agents at the scene.
Guerra said the FBI was also conducting raids in Weslaco and McAllen at the homes of Edcouch Assistant City Manager Ernesto Rosales and Edcouch City Manager Victor De La Cruz, respectively.
In a statement, Edcouch Mayor Virginio Gonzalez said the FBI is conducting an investigation.
“We're cooperating, and we're fully committed to transparent government,” Gonzalez added in his statement.
