EXCLUSIVE: ICE stakes out three noncitizens with criminal records as part of removal operations
Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents staked out three undocumented immigrants with a variety of criminal records.
Channel 5 News cameras followed ICE agents on three different stakeouts as they waited for the suspects, resulting in the arrest of one of them in the city of Hidalgo.
According to Miguel Vergara, the ICE field office director for the Harlingen office, the unnamed individuals were previously convicted of several crimes that included possession of narcotics, assault and driving under the influence. The suspects were all previously deported.
The man who was detained by ICE will soon be sent back to Mexico.
According to the Cato Institute, a 2015 study showed a criminal conviction rate of 899 undocumented immigrants per 100,000.
The same study found that the crime rate of native-born Americans is 1,797 per 100,000 people.
