Edinburg Bobcats head coach Rene Guzman and Edinburg North head coach Damian Gonzalez are being reassigned, according to Edinburg CISD.

The moves simultaneously open up two of the most high-profile football coaching positions in Valley high school football at two of the largest programs in the RGV. Both teams reside in District 31-6A.

Last season, the Edinburg High Bobcats finished tied for third place at 2-3 while Edinburg North was tied for last place at 1-4. PSJA and Weslaco finished first and second in the district standings, respectively. The only loss in district play for either school came when PSJA defeated Weslaco on October 25th, with the two squads both coming out on tops in each of their games against their foes from Edinburg.

Both teams finished under .500 on the year overall when including their non-district records (5-6 for Edinburg High & 3-7 for Edinburg North). The Cougars did go on to defeat the Bobcats 7-6 in the final game of the regular season.
