UPDATE (6/12): Edinburg Mayor Richard Molina and his wife, Dalia Molina will go before a judge July 12.

EDINBURG – Edinburg Mayor Richard Molina and his wife, Dalia Molina, were indicted by a grand jury Thursday afternoon, the Hidalgo District Attorney’s Office confirms.

The indictments stem from a voter fraud investigation tied to the November 2017 city of Edinburg election.

This is a joint investigation by the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office.

Richard Molina was indicted on one count of engaging in organized election fraud and 11 counts of illegal voting

Dalia Molina was indicted on two counts of illegal voting and one count of engaging in organized election fraud.

Both will be arraigned on their new charges in the coming weeks.

In a statement the city of Edinburg said,

"We are aware of today’s indictment and additional charges against Mayor Richard Molina. These charges do not impact the day to day operations of the city.  Our residents can rest assured that they will continue to receive quality services and customer attention. There is no disruption to city business."
