The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating after a man died in a fatal two-vehicle crash in Weslaco.

The crash occurred on Friday at around 5:40 p.m. on Mile 6 Road West and Mile 12 Road North.

DPS spokesperson Sgt. Maria Hernandez said a Chevrolet Silverado 2500, driven by 56-year-old Concepcion Chabel Reyes, from Donna, was traveling westbound on Mile 12 Road North and disregarded a stop sign, colliding with a Chevrolet Trailblazer. The Trailblazer was traveling northbound on Mile 6 Road West.

The Silverado veered into a large drainage ditch and engulfed in flames, according to Hernandez.

Hernandez said the driver of the Trailblazer was transported to Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance with non-life-threatening injuries. Reyes was ejected from the Silverado and died from his injuries at the scene.

Hernandez said Reyes may have been driving under the influence at the time of the crash; a toxicology report is pending. The investigation is ongoing.
