Democrat Vicente Gonzalez wins District 34 race
Democratic challenger Vicente Gonzalez unseated Republican Mayra Flores in the District 34 race.
Gonzalez received 70,759 votes to beat out incumbent Mayra Flores, who received 59,404 votes with 99 percent of precincts reporting.
"Those who voted for me, thank you so much," Gonzalez said Tuesday night. "I will never forget it. I will be forever grateful. To those who didn't, I extend an olive branch and I hope I can earn your vote next time. I won overwhelmingly in the areas that I represent now; to people who know me and who have seen my work. I intend to have that same value to the new people that I'm representing now, for them to see who I am and how I really do things."
Flores thanked her supporters on Twitter.
Thank you to every single person that invested in our campaign. Thank you to every single person that put their love, sweat and tears into this community. They know who they are and I will always remain grateful to them.

Flores, a San Benito native, previously won a special election in June after then-Congressman Filemon Vela retired. Congressman Gonzalez left his District 15 seat to challenge Flores for District 34.
Flores will continue to serve the district until the end of the year before Gonzalez takes over at the start of the new year.,
