Couple exploring the Gulf Coast for upcoming documentary
A couple is undergoing a trek to see the entire Texas coastline.
Jay Kleberg and Chrissy Kleberg spent Thursday night in Port Mansfield after 19 days and 320 miles into their journey.
The Klebergs spent their careers in conservation, and this journey will become a documentary about what they saw.
“The more we looked into it, we realized nobody had ever walked the entire Texas coast,” Jay said.
Seeing the entire coast in a single trip is giving the duo a perspective about the challenges ahead, including what's making our coast disappear.
“Erosion is quickly eating away our coast at a faster rate than any other part of the country,” Jay said. “We're seeing it wash away quickly, and we've got to build it back up.”
At every step, the couple also found trash from across Texas and from overseas, and signs that our garbage is quickly changing what our coast looks like.
The couple is approaching the finish line at Boca Chica and the international border.
