MCALLEN – Victims of a fraudulent home financing company are waiting to see if they will be able to keep their home or get their money back.

Infinite Properties owners promised unsuspecting victims dream homes. Rita Castillo lost $8,000 to them. “What they did was really uncalled for,” she said.

In some cases victims were able to get their homes. Celia Morales said she gave $20,000. She had her home and was making monthly payment to Infinite Properties. She said she was forced to leave her house empty.

“We don’t know whether it’s going to be our house or not and that money that we gave, we don’t know if it’s gonna be taken away or what,” she said.

A federal jury found Rogelio Ramos Jr. and Luis Rodriguez guilty. A third suspect, Guadalupe Artemio Gomez, testified against the duo and pleaded guilty before the trial started.

Officials with the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Ramos and Rodriguez took more than $1.8 million from 106 victims who range from the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio and Houston. A FBI forensic accountant testified the pair used the money for trips to Las Vegas, personal items and to purchase other properties.

“I’m a widow and so I have to work hard to be able to save money to be able to get ahead," said Castillo. "For somebody to come and take it and go in and enjoy themselves, yeah, it hurts." 

U.S. Attorney Robert Guerra Jr. told CHANNEL 5 NEWS he could not comment on the money issue of the case. He said the judge is expected to hold a forfeiture hearing to see what properties will be turned to the government. Guerra said no date is set.

Ramos and Rodriguez are expected to be sentenced in August. Gomez’s sentencing is set for July. They all face up to 30 years in federal prison and a possible $1 million fine.
