Congressman Vicente Gonzalez announced he is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as she campaigns for president.

Gonzalez made the announcement during a Friday campaign event in Brownsville, where he met with community leaders, supporters, and volunteers.

On Friday, The Associated Press reported that Harris had secured enough votes from Democratic delegates to officially be the party's nominee for president.

The nomination is expected to be finalized by Wednesday, Aug. 7. 

Gonzalez is up for reelection to represent the 34th Congressional District. He is running against former Republican U.S. Rep. Mayra Flores, who held that seat for a few months following a special election.
