CON MI GENTE: Texas Cafe in Rio Grande City Declared Texas Treasure
RIO GRANDE CITY - The Texas Historical Commission declared a local family-owned restaurant a Texas Treasure.
In Rio Grande City, the Texas Cafe is a sign of the city's success.
“This restaurant was originated in 1939 by my grandfather; my grandfather Clemente Garza, along with, I believe it was his brother-in-law Antonio Salinas," says owner of Texas Café, Becky Garza.
The cafe has gone from generation to generation.
The proclamation of being a Texas Treasure and 80-years of being in the same family has drawn the attention of Laredo Senator, Judith Zaffirini and State Representative Ryan Guillian.
Back in the day, it was where Mexican movie stars came to eat while performing in near-by theaters.
It's a place where generations have come to eat.
