The Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport now has a new aircraft rescue vehicle.
It will be housed at the airport's Brownsville Fire Department station and will be their primary fire truck, bringing the total to two.
The airport director says this upgraded fire truck was needed for the airport to meet compliance.
"It's used for aircraft fire rescue, so in case there's an incident or accident here at the airport. So they'll be the first responders, they'll be extinguishing a fire from an airplane incident," Airport Director Angel Ramos said.
The firetruck will also be equipped with being able to help firefighters, offer any medical needs.
The cost was $850,000 and was paid for through a federal grant.
