MISSION - Border wall construction is now underway in the Rio Grande Valley.

Construction is underway for 13 miles of new levee wall in Hidalgo County.

The 13 miles of levee barriers will go up where no border barriers are in place.

Contracts have also been approved for another 85 miles of new construction across the Valley.

A Customs and Border Protection spokesperson says all of the new construction will take place in locations where no barriers currently exist.
