Authorities say car thieves targeting specific trucks in the Valley
Valley law enforcement are warning truck owners that thieves are targeting GMC Sierras and Chevy Silverados.
They say anyone who owns these vehicles need to be on high alert because these thieves are striking all over the Valley at any time of day or night.
One Harlingen man shared surveillance video of his truck being stolen. It took thieves less than two minutes to take his truck.
The good news is there are some ways to protect your truck from being stolen.
David Aguero is a manager at D-Tronics in Brownsville, and he says his store has seen a major increase in truck owners coming in to upgrade their security systems.
"We've been getting like 6 cars a day," Aguero said.
Because the border is so close, Aguero says investing a few extra dollars in security is necessary.
"[They] can steal your truck and by the time you're calling Onstar and AAA, your car is already across the border," Aguero said.
That's just some of the advice from if you drive a GMC Sierra or Chevy Silverado. Some other tips include getting a kill switch installed or getting a steering wheel club to lock it.
