Acting DHS Secretary to ‘Work with’ Respite Center
MCALLEN – Before touring the border, Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan made a stop at the Catholic Charities Respite Center in McAllen.
McAleenan met with Sister Norma Pimentel, the executive director at the center, and Bishop Daniel Flores.
Flores says McAleenan’s tour is important; it allows him to see the current situation with his own eyes.
During the tour, Pimentel says the acting secretary now has new ideas to return to Washington, D.C.
“He definitely says that he wants to make sure that he works with us to follow up with a response to make sure that something is done about what is happening today,” said Pimentel.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke with a man from Guatemala over how he felt about the acting department head.
