NEAR EDINBURG – Three Lopez State Jail inmates were sent to the hospital after an altercation at the facility.

Robert C Hurst, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, said a group of African-Americans and Hispanic offenders got into a fight around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Hurst added the three people who were injured were transported to the hospital to receive further evaluation.  

No other information about their condition is being released.

Movement at the facility has also been restricted.

The case remains under investigation.
