1 in custody following threat made at Edinburg high school
EDINBURG – Tense moments in Edinburg as parents were temporarily unable to reach their children.
Romeo Cantu, a spokesperson with Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District, told CHANNEL 5 NEWS Robert Vela High School received a threatening message Friday afternoon, which led to a lockdown for about 15 minutes.
The district’s SWAT team quickly responded. Edinburg CISD is the only district in the Rio Grande Valley with its own SWAT team.
Word spread quickly and several parents dropped what they were doing and raced over, but officials told them to wait across the street as a precaution until they were given the “all clear”.
The district says no weapons were found on campus and no one was hurt. One person was taken into custody. Officials did not specify if they were a student.
