Boys & Girls Club of McAllen purchasing Bonham Elementary property
The Boys & Girls Club of McAllen will soon take over a former McAllen ISD elementary school.
The club is purchasing the James Bonham Elementary School campus property. The campus closed in 2021.
A news release from the Boys & Girls Club of McAllen said the 13-acre property will serve as the third clubhouse for the organization.
“[It] will provide necessary out-of-school time services for the children and families in south McAllen, including programs focused on health and well-being, character and leadership, academic success, and life and workforce readiness,” the news release stated. “This third facility will allow for the expansion of youth sports, equitable access to the arts and mental health programs, and combating food insecurity in south McAllen.”
Officials with the club and the city of McAllen will be at a signing ceremony to officially close the deal on the property on Wednesday.
