WESLACO – The Federal Trade Commission sent out a health insurance consumer warning.

With open enrollment in full swing for health coverage, the commission is asking those who are making changes to their plan to beware of possible crooked deals.

“If anyone tries to sell you Medicare insurance, while claiming to be an official Medicare agent, it's a scam. There are no medical sales representatives. Another thing that people might be hearing is that they must join a prescription drug plan to keep their Medicare coverage,” said Colleen Tressler, senior project manager for the FTC.

Tressler stressed to never give information over the phone and to report suspicious callers.
