Migrant Family Fights Govt.flv
One Valley family is standing their ground against the Federal Government's plans for a border wall.
Los Ebanos - One family is concerned over what the proposed border fence could mean to their small community.
"There's a lot of memories, childhood memories. I've lived here this was my home for 21 years." says Luz Muniz.
She tells NEWSCHANNEL 5 The Department Of Homeland Security has told her parents they need access to their land, so they can do survey work.
Recently Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff agreed to improve current levees as part of the border fence. But in the town of Los Ebanos, there are no levees just homes.
"So what happens to those areas that Border Patrol has defined as hot spots, but does not have levees? We need to ask the Department of Homeland Security. We hope they will work with us, and that they won't take private land" Says Hidalgo County Judge J.D. Salinas.
Texas Legal Aid has stepped in to help the Munoz family battle the government's plan to survey their land.
