MONTE ALTO - Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies were out searching for a key piece of evidence in a murder investigation.

A man opened fire on a group of men, fatally shooting one and wounding another.

It happened in Monte Alto last night. The suspect turned himself in after the shooting, but not before he got rid of the weapon.

Deputies used metal detectors to try and locate the gun. But so far, their search has turned up dry.
